Matija Krečič

Matija Krečič (1988) obtained his bachelor degree at Carinthian State Conservatory in Klagenfurt in 2015 where he studied violin under prof. Helfried Fister and composition under prof. Alfred Stingl.

He currently collaborates with Magnifico, Tomaž Hostnik, Teo Collori in Momento Cigano, and Tango story. In the last years he worked with Terrafolk, Gal and Severa Gjurin, Marko Črnčec, Žan Tetičkovič, P’Jays, Mar Django, Skarabej… He wrote the music for some short films and theater plays (Puppet Theater Maribor, SNG Drama Maribor). In 2013 he arranged Magnifico’s music for the serbian film “Montevideo, vidimo se!”, directed by Dragan Bjelogrlić. He composed and produced two complete musical ID for 1. channel of Slovenian national television (2016, 2017-). In 2018 he received the award for the best arrangement at Slovenian Song Festival (Popevka 2018). He scored a movie “Inventory”, directed by Darko Sinko. In February 2021 world-renowned violinist Daniel Hope performed his piece “In a Melting Pot” during the concert series Europe@Home, produced by ARTE.

Matija is very sought-after arranger. As a composer, he has cooperated with several Slovenian soloists and ensembles: Mate Bekavac, Bernarda Fink, Tanja Sonc, Jan Gričar, Ensemble Janus Atelier, MD7, Duo Furioso, Carpe Artem, Metabonma, Simfonični orkester Cantabile, Ingenium Ensemble, APZ Tone Tomšič, Ljubljanski Madrigalisti… His music was released on two albums: “Architexture” (Janus Atelier, 2014) and “Cut / Rez” (ZKP RTV Slovenia, 2020).
Matija is a member of Slovenian Composer’s Society and co-founder of Janus Atelier music collective. In May 2016 they organized “Janus festival” featuring the music written in the last 100 years.
