By the standards of its lift-linked neighbours, La Tania’s slopes are not very high (1400m – 2305m), but crucially they face north-west so hold their snow well. The blue and green pistes descending into La Tania are reinforced by snow cannons, so you can usually ski all the way down into the village, although you should expect slush if the weather is warm. And the mountainside below the Col de la Loze that La Tania shares with Courchevel-Le Praz<\/strong> (formerly known as “Courchevel 1300”) has the best tree skiing in the whole of the 3 Valleys, so it’s enjoyable to ski even in flat light.<\/p>\n The local slopes suit all standards. Beginners<\/strong> have a free child-friendly nursery slope in the village then longer green and blue runs to start exploring on. They can also get over to Meribel<\/strong><\/a> on an easy blue piste (Boulevarde de la Loze) or to Courchevel<\/strong> <\/a>on an even easier green piste which goes to Courchevel 1850. Intermediate-level skiers<\/strong> can switch between the local blue and red runs. Advanced skiers<\/strong> have the black Eclipse piste that is used for World Cup downhill races (it’s one of the steepest on the circuit) that descends through the trees to Courchevel Le Praz with a vertical of about 1000m. Jean Blanc, Lanches, Dou de Lanches and Tetras are also graded black. For freeriders<\/strong>, the Col de la Loze accesses north-facing off-piste (near the Dou de Lanches run), east-facing off-piste (towards Courchevel from Chenus) and west-facing off-piste (from Boulevarde de la Loze towards Meribel) but only a guide can tell you whether it’s safe for freeriding or not, so hiring one is strongly recommended.<\/p>\n Although La Tania has an interesting little local ski area, intermediates and above will want to explore at least the Courchevel valley<\/a>, and most will want to discover the whole of the 3 Valleys<\/strong>. It’s quite simply the largest lift-linked ski area in the world, with skiing and boarding for every standard, and hundreds of runs to choose from. And the lift connecting the valleys are so good that it’s perfectly possible to ski over to Meribel, then carry onto Val Thorens<\/strong><\/a>, Les Menuires<\/strong><\/a> or St Martin be Belleville<\/strong><\/a>, and return to La Tania by a different route before the lifts close. But don’t dawdle and keep an eye on the time: whilst the lift connections between the valleys are excellent, the bus connections are virtually non-existent.<\/p>\n Despite it’s official ‘Courchevel’ prefix and small size, La Tania feels like a separate, self-contained resort rather than just an outlying suburb of Courchevel. It is not beautiful (too many apartment blocks) but it is well designed: everywhere is within a short walk of the lifts and pistes, and these descend into the centre of the village from where the ski lifts depart. This central area is pedestrianised, making it relatively safe for children and pleasant to wander around or linger in for some apres ski drinks.\u00a0 There are some ski hire shops (see section below for discounts and recommendations), a Tourist Office, a newsagent, a bakery, a supermarket, a post office, the lift pass office and about 8 bars & restaurants, so big it isn’t, and nor is there a lot of nightlife.
